craftmanship (Tattooing vs.Choppers)

Stopped by "Independents Choppers" in Newark, DE monday.  Jeff is doing a great job on the shop bike.(1984 iron head)
The drive home is a little over an hour long, giving me plenty of time to think.  Jeff has made this build easy on me because i don't have to question his work or his eye for detail. I just told him the feel I was going for, and some of the things i would like to see.  Jeff is a true craftsman and artist at his trade, and only puts out work he trust to handle as good as it looks.

"OK what the HELL does CHOPPERS have to do with TATTOOS Uncle John?"

The drive home brought these thoughts to my mind.  Finding a Tattoo Artist is not unlike finding a Custom Chopper Builder.  First they should both have your safety in mind.  Both should share in your vision, and be unafraid to suggest changes that will improve your outcome.  And ultimately be proud to have you show their work to anyone.

Hanging out with Jeff at Independents was not only a good time Monday, but it recharged my batteries. Helped remind me of the gift I have to work in my field, a trade that produces art and illustrations that last forever.

At Bewitched Tattoo we prefer to do custom work for you, but will always do our best to complete what you have imagined. Weather you bring in an image or we illustrate one for you. We art illustrators and artists trained to tattoo, and continue training to stay on top of our craft.

CARING FOR YOUR NEW PIERCING

Caring for your new piercing should be the same for everyone across the board. Unless discussed otherwise with your piercer.

1. Wash your hands thoroughly. Never touch your new piercing or jewelry with dirty hands and fingers.
2. Inspect and clean your jewelry with unscented soap and water before rotating. If rotating is necessary.
3. Do not take jewelry out. Body piercings may take many months to completely heal. Changing or removing jewelry should be avoided during the healing process.
4. The use of a sea salt water solution is highly recommended. This will help speed up the healing process.
5. Never use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide because they may damage healthy cells and cause scar tissue.
6. Products that contain petroleum are not recommended as it may collect and promote the growth of bacteria.
7. Avoid hot tubs and public pools until the piercing is completely healed.
8. Avoid alcohol, smoking, chewing tobacco and spicy foods with a new oral piercing.
9. Avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds, oils and lotions.
10. Tight fitting clothes may irritate a new piercing.
11. Practicing good hygiene helps during the healing period.

If questions arise during healing, please contact your professional piercer.

CARING FOR YOUR NEW TATTOO

Healing your tattoo could be very different from someone else's. People's skin varies as much as people's personalities. You have to find what works for you.

Being in the business for 14 years, I've seen many variations of healing treatments. My best recommendation thus far has been Aquaphor. A healing ointment made by Eucerin, a leading name for skin care.

The following is a step by step care instruction for your new tattoo:
1. Leave bandage on for 1-4 hours. No need to rebandage. Unless discussed with your artist.
2. Remove bandage, wash with warm water and mild, unscented soap.
3. Showering (not bathing) is highly recommended. Keeping your tattoo clean is vital for the healing process.
4. Apply a thin coat of unscented hand lotion, Aquaphor healing ointment,  or A & D ointment up to 3 times daily until your tattoo is healed.
5. Do expect your tattoo to peel during the first few days of healing. Do not pick at or irritate the skin during this process
6. Swimming, sun tanning, or soaking in water is not recommended for at least 2 weeks.
7. Average healing time is 2-3 weeks.
8. Please contact your particular artist for any questions that may arise during the healing process.

Pain Free Tattooing

Ok, it's a tattoo. If you have not had one before, yes, it hurts. It is sore and can be uncomfortable. If you have a tattoo you know this already. A tattoo should not be a traumatizing experience. With the correct training, and proper equipment, a professional tattoo artist will help you create a piece of artwork that will last a lifetime, and give you a great experience during the process.
I am truly troubled when I hear how someone had a bad experience or was given medication to get them through the tattoo process. A professional tattoo should not be that painful. Please remember it is your body, your choice what tattoo to get,  and who you want to do it. If you walk into an establishment and don't feel right about something, or your gut instinct is to walk away, then walk away! Continue to look for a place that will respect your ideas and help you bring them to fruition.
I love my tattoos and I truly thank the artists that have worked on me. I not only love the artwork I wear, but enjoy the memories of the tattoo artist laughing and telling stories.

Your Tattoo!

Dermagraphics is just a fancy way of saying tattooing. Tattoos are not a strong enough way of describing the artwork that you would like to wear on your body, and artwork is what it should be described as.
Your tattoo should be a thing of beauty and it should be yours! That is why Bewitched only brings in true artists, trained in tattooing into our studio. We strive to do our best to keep you safe, and respected for giving us the opportunity to treat you as a living canvas.
